Great Barrier Island has a great range of events that are held throughout the year, many on an annual basis. The events always provide excellent entertainment in idyllic settings, with a friendly and relaxed island atmosphere.

Thousands are expected to flock to the usually quiet Great Barrier Island to dine on the fresh mussels farmed locally. The crowds bring a vibrance to the island with hundreds of boats, music, cheer and celebration.

The focus of course is on the mussels prepared in every way possible, but while you're at 'the Barrier', be sure to explore the island features that make the place so special. Among these features are white sand beaches, dense native bush, picturesque landscape, local art and crafts, diving and fishing charters, a network of walking tracks and much more.

Open Mike Night - every Thursday evening

Every Thursday night, Great Barrier Island holds an 'Open Mike Night' at the local Currach Irish Pub. Head down to the pub to enjoy the friendly atmosphere, a great meal, a drink and local entertainment.
